The Penal Code refers to a night vision rifle scope as a "sniper scope", and the restrictions regarding possession and use are outlined in section 468. I understand that as currently applied, only the military (like the state has any authority over them anyway) law enforcement or people doing legitimate, verifiable educational research can possess a night vision rifle scope. Simply owning one is considered illegal. It is also my understanding that it need not be designed to be a sighting device, but only that you have the means to attach it to a firearm.
