Night Vision Surveillance Cameras

If you don't know anything about night vision surveillance cameras, then you might find it very hard to purchase the one that suits your needs. Usually most people don't have a clue about all that and that's why this article will make a brief presentation of the most useful security cameras available on the market.

night vision cameraThe main reason why you buy a night vision security camera is to help you see in the dark. It's like having a sleepless and very affordable security guard watching over your property. But the camera will only detect and record the strange activities but it won't be able to stop them.

Night vision security cameras use infrared light to see images in the dark very easily. This type of light can detect right away any intruder and any movement and will record detailed images.

When you decide to buy a night time security camera you should pay attention to every single level of performance capability available on the market. That's why it would probably be best if you speak with a security camera expert first.

If you're looking to find the best security camera for outside surveillance then you must plan the installation very carefully. Installation is everything when it comes to security and if you place the cameras into the wrong corners then all your efforts are in vain.

night surveillance cameraYou cannot place a security camera in a corner and wait for the thieves. It's very important to identify all the key areas around your property which can be used by intruders to visit you. If you plan everything perfectly then your eyes in the dark will see everything that's happening at night.

Obviously, all this surveillance strategy is highly influenced by your budget and also by the size of your property. Usually the walkways to the house or the garage doors are the best night vision camera targets.

If you want to be protected 24h a day then you should consider getting a day/night camera but you'll make sure that it has infrared capabilities if you're looking for high-quality night time coverage. Any regular day/night camera only records good images in low light and no images in total darkness.

The prices of night vision security coverage varies according to everyone's needs. For wider coverage you'll need more cameras and it will cost you a lot while for a simple monitor, a very affordable and easy-to-install wireless system will do the trick.

Choosing the right camera can be pretty difficult because the market offers a wide range of products with prices between $100 and $400.

The Internet will help you decide which products suits your needs best but before making any decisions you must remember to plan the installation very carefully in order to obtain great results.

night vision equipment

Even in the dark, most of us can still see. Well, we can see up to a point. Animals, on the other hand, are able to see a lot more detail in low-light or no-light situations than us and the following explains some factors, both biological and environmental, that make this possible.

Augmented Human Vision We have two ranges that we incorporate to intensify our night vision they are known as the spectral range and infrared range. When we use our spectral range it allows us to take advantage of what is normally invisible to the naked eye. We can see into the infrared and ultraviolet spectrum's with the aid of such products as night vision goggles and binoculars. Special infrared optics in digital camera's also allow us to see within the infrared spectrum and can be used in thermal imaging as well.

We see over a range of several million to one and with the photopic vision we see the highest light levels and this is what we use in the daytime. Scotopic works in extremely low light situations while our mesopic vision is what we use in low-light when no detail can be seen. When human eyesight goes from bright to dark, or dark to light it can take up to forty-five minutes for the eye's to adjust properly, but with animals it happens immediately.

Tapetum Lucidum A number of vertebrate animals rely on a layer of tissue called the tapetum lucidum located behind or within their retinas. There are four types of tapetum lucidum found in the variety of animals on the planet. This masterpiece of nature allows the light to be refracted back into the retina, allowing animals to have augmented vision which enables them to see in the dark. This happens instantly for them. The eyeshine you see in animals like cats, dogs, deer when light hits their eyes in the dark is a result of the tapetum lucidum. The eyeshine can occur in different colors like red, green or blue, depending on the animal.

Biological Animal Vision These are a few examples of how different animals can see in the dark.

Pit Vipers, and many other snakes, find their prey at night by smell and tasting the air and the use of deep pits on the side of their head that help them detect heat as a form of thermal vision.

Fruit Bats have a folded retina that they use in conjunction with sonar allowing them to navigate and find food in the dark.

Owls have the ability to see small animals at the distance of a football field away. They have special lenses that can magnify information in the same way a telescope does.

Rays and sharks have flat refractive crystals of guanine that activate in murky waters to allow better sight.

So as far as the naked eye is concerned it's pretty obvious that many if not all animals have a definite edge over us humans when it comes to seeing in the dark. But as luck would have it us humans have been able to develop night vision technology to the point where we can see very clearly in almost total darkness. But if you think your eye's can now compete with those of an animal I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken.

Night vision technology has advanced so much in the past few years that it is being used in everyday life. Night goggles are frequently used for surveillance by security companies and outdoors men have incorporated the technology into their hunting scopes which enables them to hunt at night when most wild life are active.

Choosing the Right Night Vision Optics

Night has its magic quality which many humans missed particularly on moonless nights. In comparison to many animals which do their gallivanting in the dark, humans cannot see in the dark because their eyes lack tapetum lucidum. This is a layer of tissues in the eyes which improves vision in low light conditions but is in the eyes of most animals. Fortunately human ingenuity came up with night vision optics that made night vision possible.

Night vision optics is a device to intensify human sight under really low conditions.

Its applications
A device for night vision was perfected during wartime giving infantrymen in the battle field a technical benefit over their enemies. The government Of the US permitted its military to use night vision devices in the Vietnam War and Persian Gulf War. It has also contributed much to the success of urban and rural police forces in their work. Products of night vision optics
